Sky Eye Systems

Sky Eye Systems (www.skyeyesystems.it) is an Aeronautical Company with operational headquarters in Cascina (PI), founded in 2017, is wholly owned by Italian shareholders. The company has a specific know-how in the development of a new family of Mini and Small Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems, with a weight spanning from 25 to 150 kg, certified Military or Civil Type, according to STANAG 4703, SAE.AER. P-2-6-7, DO 178C, MIL-F-8785C norms.

The Company consists of 45 employees, senior aerospace and electronics engineers, having matured experience in leading aeronautical companies, such as Alenia Aermacchi, Leonardo Galileo, Fincantieri, and junior engineers graduated at the best Italian Universities who have participated in globally relevant aeronautical programs (M346, NH90, P1HH/P2HH, etc).
Sky Eye Systems, to reducing time-to-market and structural costs, has established a network in the territory for the development of enabling technologies aimed at the realization of sensors and on-board systems, preserving their IPR.

The Mission of Sky Eye Systems is to create economic value by designing and building a family of new high-performance unmanned aircraft.
The Vision of SES is being a success company, in Italy and in the World, in the design and production of high-performance Unmanned Aircraft. Generate wealth for the company, for the territory, in terms of satellite business and employment, and for other stakeholders.
On December 17th 2018, the Quality Management System of Sky Eye Systems S.r.l. has been certificated in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 and EN 9100:2018 standards. The certifications scope is: “Design, prototyping, manufacturing and after sales support of unmanned air systems (UAS) for the civil and military market”
The SES Design Organization has received in 2022 the Military Design Organization Approval (MDOA), issued by Armaereo.

The first Unmanned System developed by SES is the Rapier X-25, with a Maximum Take-Off Weight of 25 kg, which has obtained the Military Type Certificate, issued by Armaereo. Rapier X-25 UAS is a Remotely Piloted System belonging to the MINI Class with features of surveillance, control and data sensing (sea and ground), typical of LIGHT and TACTICAL aircraft. The aircraft is equipped with innovative systems, able to guarantee the operation in hostile environment, and it is designed with optimization criteria in terms of aerodynamic efficiency, volumetric capability and structural weights. Consequently, the Rapier X-25 can assure long endurance (+16 h) with cutting-edge technological payloads.

Rapier X-SkySAR is the smallest LIGHT class UAS equipped with an airborne mini Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload, for all-weather surveillance and mapping even in degraded visibility conditions, in addition to the high-performance EO/IR payload. The aircraft is equipped with innovative systems, able to guarantee the operation in hostile environment, and it is designed with optimization criteria in terms of aerodynamic efficiency, volumetric capability and structural weights.

Rapier X-VTOL is the Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) Light UAS for multi-mission (land-based and shipboard), with performance like Tactical Class. The X-VTOL (MTOW 40kg) is the hybrid configuration of the Rapier UAS family, capable of vertical take-off and landing, thanks to 4 electric motors. The tandem push-pull propulsion engines configuration allows for fast climbing, precision landing and hovering, even in strong windy conditions, or on-board of fast-moving ship. Rapid deployability and translational capabilities for land and maritime applications.

Rapier X-VTOL MARITIME is the Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) with Max Take Off Weight (MTOW) about 100 kg, flexible fuselage bay for multiple payload installation for multi-mission on shipboard and a long persistence on target (up to 11 hours). The double deck layout of the fuselage allows for a separation between systems and payload, for an easy and quick payloads replacement. The X-VTOL MARITIME is the configuration of the Rapier UAS family, capable of vertical take-off and landing, thanks to 8 electric motors.

Main fields of action

In terms of Vertical sectors, the action of SES is addressed mainly to:

  • Defense
  • Civil
  • Homeland and Security

Main capabilities

In the Italian Aerospace environment, Sky Eye Systems, holds the aeronautical skills and heritages for the complete domain of the technologies to master RPAS all through life-cycle. The Company has incorporated processes, tools and enabling technologies to independently design reliable RPAS.

Its highly qualified staff is able to design UAV systems in their entirety:

  • Definition of optimized aeromechanical configurations with high efficiency,
  • Flight Control System and Autopilot HW/SW development of proprietary command systems
  • Command and Control
  • Thermo-fluid-dynamic analyses
  • Mechanical Systems develpoment
  • Aerostructures design
  • Aerodynamic analyses,
  • Design of minimum weight structures,
  • Integration of on-board systems.

SES has the ability to dominate the problems of integrating any type of payload on board, even innovative ones (SAR, anti-jamming and radar visibility reduction systems).
